Vashon Poetry Fest - May 21-26

Vashon Poetry Fest originated from a reading at Vashon Winery by Samuel Green, Washington State's Poet Laureate, in 2008.

This year opening night will be Thursday, May 21 and will feature students in an open mic format at Café Luna, led by Devon Atkins, in "Young Poets Talk Back".

Poets Samuel Green and Tony Curtis will perform Friday night through Monday and will offer poetry workshops on Saturday and Sunday. Additional workshops are being offered through King County Library by Kevin Miller and Ann Spiers.

Mythologist Michael Meade will explore poetry and music on Friday night, introduce the poets Green and Curtis, host Qadim Ensemble, a San Fransisco-based group that plays ecstatic Middle Eastern music.

Meade will also help facilitate a rollicking evening of Irish music and poetry with poets Curtis and Green, and fiddler Randal Bays at the Red Bicycle Saturday night.

Finally, Meade will lead a reverie on Monday afternoon to recognize those who have gone before us and to celebrate the living.

Vashon Poetry Fest is a community effort to promote, enjoy, and recognize the genius of poetry.
